Job Summary:

Detroit Salt Company is seeking a Diesel Mechanic responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting heavy mining equipment such as haul trucks, loaders, drills, and conveyors. Your expertise will ensure our fleet operates at peak performance, supporting safe and efficient salt extraction. This role suits someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and industrial settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild, and maintain power equipment including cranes, loaders, haul trucks, conveyors, bulldozers, transport vehicles, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.
2. Operate and inspect machinery to diagnose defects, dismantle and reassemble using hoists and hand tools, and examine parts for damage or wear.
3. Weld broken parts and structural members.
4. Check and fill fluid levels, perform routine maintenance, and service lube points.
5. Maintain a clean and safe work area through daily housekeeping.
6. Complete and submit work logs accurately at each shift's end.
7. Follow all safety policies and procedures, remaining alert to hazards.
8. Cross-train and perform varied tasks as needed.
9. Communicate with supervisors and management regarding safety, production, and quality issues.
10. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems promptly and skillfully.
11. Use technical drawings and testing equipment to assist repairs.
12. Obtain, install, and repair replacement parts.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. 1-year CAT SIS Program experience preferred.
3. 2-4 years of experience in an industrial shop or mining environment required.
4. 2-4 years of heavy equipment mechanic experience required.
5. Dependability and reliability.
6. Familiarity with equipment such as cranes, loaders, haul trucks, conveyors, bulldozers, and pneumatic tools.
7. Ability to operate testing vehicles and equipment.
8. Capability to repair to OEM standards and diagnose malfunctions.
9. Knowledge of lifting devices, hand, and pneumatic tools.
10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer skills.
11. Problem-solving skills.
12. English reading, speaking, and comprehension skills.

Physical Requirements:

1. Work safely in varying temperatures outdoors and indoors.
2. Lift and carry up to 50+ pounds regularly.
3. Wear all PPE as required.
