Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet at Chester, VA. You will perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Responsibilities include PMs, inspections, and repairing diesel engines, hydraulics, and air brake systems, with strong emphasis on safety and DOT compliance. Tools and a valid DL are required; OT after 40 hours applies.

Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic/air brake systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.
• Repair and maintain specialized waste equipment (compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lift systems).
• Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with DOT and company standards.
• Maintain clean and accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to all OSHA and DOT safety protocols.

Location: 11800 Lewis Road Chester VA 23831

Pay Rate: $28-$36/hr. More pay available based on experience, certifications, and skill level.

Hours / Shift: 2 Options1) 4am-2pm M-F. Will be service call heavy. Strong Diesel exp needed on this shift. Immediate OT after 40hrs worked.2) 145pm-12am M-F. PMs/DVIRs. Intermediate exp is fine.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet. In this role, you will perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks (rear loaders, side loaders, front loaders, and roll-offs) to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic/air brake systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.
• Repair and maintain specialized waste equipment (compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lift systems).

Requirements & Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic.

Tools: Must own a personal set of basic mechanics tools.

License: Valid Driver’s License required.

Skills: Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.

Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced shop environment.
