Job summary

GFL is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet at the Halifax, NC facility. The role involves routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Responsibilities include PMs, troubleshooting hydraulic/electrical issues, and maintaining maintenance records. Candidates must own basic tools, have a valid driver's license, and meet safety standards; 10am start with 10–12 hour shifts and OT

Qualifications

• 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic is required.
• Must own a personal set of basic mechanics tools.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
• Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic/air brake systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.
• Repair and maintain specialized waste equipment (compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lift systems).
• Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with DOT and company standards.
• Maintain clean and accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to OSHA and DOT safety protocols.

Safely operate, repair, rebuild and perform maintenance on Company owned or leased heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment including rolling stock to ensure its ability to operate safelyLocation: 2211 Hwy 301 N Halifax NC 27839Pay Rate: $29-$36/hr. More pay available based on experience, certifications, and skill level. Hours / Shift: 10am Start Time. Expect 10-12hr shifts M-F. Immediate OT after 40hrs worked.

About the Role

• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic.
• Tools: Must own a personal set of basic mechanics tools.
• License: Valid Driver's License required.
• Skills: Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced shop environment.
