Job summary

The City of Lincoln is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to perform journeyman-level work on diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure fleet reliability and safety.

Responsibilities include diagnosing using OEM software, overhauls of engines and transmissions, and maintaining brake, fuel, emission, cooling, and hydraulic systems. Requires lifting up to 50 lbs and ability to work in variable conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in heavy-duty diesel equipment maintenance and repair.
• Valid Class C driver's license; Class A or B preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Perform tune-ups, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines and gasoline engines.
• Use OEM software to diagnose engines and transmissions.
• Repair and adjust transmissions, clutch systems, and drive lines.
• Overhaul suspension systems, steering systems, brakes, exhaust, and hydraulic components.
• Inspect and maintain electrical systems (6, 12, 24V), cooling, heating, and air conditioning.
• Repair and maintain brake, fuel, emission control, and exhaust systems.
• Perform welding on steel and aluminum using Gas, Arc, and Mig welding.
• Complete service calls for emergency repairs and towing as needed.
• Submit work orders and record time spent on jobs.
