Job summary

Nebraska Department of Transportation in Lincoln, NE seeks a skilled Diesel Technician to maintain and repair a wide range of equipment and vehicles. You will diagnose electrical and computerized systems, perform fuel system repairs, and handle welding on snowplows and trucks.

The ideal candidate has 2 years of diesel maintenance experience or relevant post-secondary training, plus a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement.

Qualifications

  • Practical work experience performing automotive/diesel maintenance and repair.
  • Post-high school vocational or technical coursework in automotive/diesel mechanics.
  • Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and process new vehicles and equipment for NDOT acceptance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on NDOT equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical/computerized systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair fuel systems on gasoline/diesel equipment.
  • Diate and repair transmissions and hydraulic systems; weld and fabricate as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials.
  • Operate heavy equipment during new equipment check-in and test drives.
