Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic for the Department of Transportation. You will repair, maintain, and inspect diesel and construction equipment to support safe travel and reliable highway operations.

This hands-on role requires diagnostic skills, safety focus, and the ability to perform preventative maintenance, tune-ups, and safety inspections. Overtime and shift variations may apply; telework is not available.

Qualifications

• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment; including one year of diesel experience.
• Completion of the Commonwealth Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program or equivalent.
• Active Pennsylvania Class B CDL with Air Brake and Manual Transmission restrictions removed, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Repair vehicles, engines, electrical systems, transmissions, and major components to keep equipment in working order.
• Perform tune-ups, diagnostics, system checks, and adjustments to reduce wear and prevent breakdowns.
• Complete required safety and emissions inspections and record all findings accurately.
• Use tools and testing equipment to identify problems and determine effective repair methods.
• Maintain hand tools, power tools, and motorized equipment and report damaged or missing items.
• Follow safety procedures, observe hazards, and help maintain a clean and safe work area.
