Job Summary
To assist Fleet Technician II and Fleet Technician III in providing safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by learning to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as diagnosing and repairing as required to prevent breakdowns on the road, reduce vehicle downtime, and improve total fleet reliability.
Responsibilities
- Learn to perform required inspections and preventive maintenance under the guidance of fleet technicians or fleet manager on vehicles and equipment to ensure safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the fleet's lifecycle.
- Learn to perform FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, light-duty vehicles, and other equipment, following all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Learn to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on all fleet vehicles and equipment under supervision.
- Address driver vehicle inspection report write-ups promptly and accurately.
- Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications on various vehicle systems.
- Follow proper documentation procedures for all work performed.
- Develop proficiency in Sysco computer programs under supervision.
Qualifications
Education
- Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training 2-year school (preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience
- No experience required
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred)
Skills
- Basic vehicle systems knowledge
- Basic electrical diagnosis and repair skills
- Welding and cutting skills (gas, electric, MIG, TIG)
- Basic computer skills
Additional Requirements
- Own and provide necessary tools (diagnostic equipment and major tools provided by Sysco)
- Performance reviews and training for apprentices
- Optional certifications (e.g., ASE, Brake Inspector, HVAC) are preferred but not required
- Ability to complete Sysco SIU training modules
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, handle, reach, talk, hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Frequently lift/move up to 100 lbs.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination and vision abilities.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to various environmental conditions and mechanical hazards
