JOB SUMMARY

To assist Fleet Technician II and Fleet Technician III in providing safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by learning to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as learning to diagnose and repair as required to prevent breakdowns on road, reduce vehicle downtime, and improve total fleet reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn to perform required inspections and preventive maintenance under the guidance of fleet technician II & III or fleet manager on vehicles and equipment to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the fleet's lifecycle.
  • Learn to perform FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, light-duty vehicles, and other company-owned equipment under supervision.
  • Perform all inspections and maintenance in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, including all required inspections and frequencies.
  • Learn to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections per company methods on all fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Learn to perform quality repairs to maximize safety and reliability, including inspections, scheduled repairs, malfunctions, and road-call repairs.
  • Address driver vehicle inspection report write-ups timely and accurately under supervision.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications on various vehicle systems.
  • Follow proper documentation procedures on work orders, including complaint, cause, and correction formats.
  • Develop proficiency in Sysco computer programs under supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training (preferred)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience

  • No experience required
  • Valid driver's license (CDL preferred)

Professional Skills

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle systems and components
  • Basic diagnosis and repair skills, including electrical systems
  • Basic welding and cutting skills
  • Basic computer skills

Additional Qualifications

  • Own and provide necessary tools (diagnostic and major tools provided by Sysco)
  • Performance reviews and training modules required
  • Certifications (preferred but not required): ASE, Brake Inspector, HVAC, etc.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic software and safety training modules

Physical Demands

  • Regular standing, walking, handling, reaching, talking, and hearing
  • Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling
  • Occasional sitting and frequent lifting up to 100 lbs
  • Dexterity for hand tools and shop equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to various environmental conditions and moving parts
  • Non-traditional hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call
  • Occasional travel and exposure to high places, confined spaces, fumes, and noise
