Job Description - Diesel Technician I (Elmwood) (251612)

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs, including adjusting and testing steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and engine components, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state/provincial, and local guidelines. Test drive vehicles post-repair to verify issues are resolved.
2. Coordinate and obtain necessary inspections and approvals for major repairs before releasing vehicles from the maintenance facility.
3. Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment, adhering to all safety and regulatory standards.
4. Identify and report additional maintenance needs discovered during repairs, including those requiring higher qualification levels.
5. Accurately record time, parts used, and details of repairs and maintenance performed.
6. Perform road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.
7. Report unsafe conditions or practices and vehicle abuse to the Lead Technician.
8. Uphold high ethical standards and personal integrity, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behavior to supervisors.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• At least five years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic repair experience.
• Proficiency in diagnostics, electrical systems, and air conditioning.
• Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment.
• Experience with fleet maintenance and familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.
• Possession of the minimum required hand tools for a Diesel Technician.
• Good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Valid applicable state license; CDL preferred. The company offers free training for mechanics.
• Shop located in the Elmwood / St. Bernard area.
