Job summary

Rumpke Waste & Recycling offers a Diesel Mechanic Apprentice role focused on training to perform repair and maintenance on our fleet vehicles. You will learn to inspect, service, and repair components, while adhering to safety regulations and company policies.

You’ll work with senior technicians, gain practical skills in preventative maintenance, and develop the ability to perform detailed inspections, fluid checks, and system servicing in a busy shop environment.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of truck components and systems.
• Good mechanical aptitude with interest in vehicle maintenance.
• Ability to safely drive vehicles in and out of service area.
• Strong written and verbal communication with customers and coworkers.
• Willingness to work in a vehicle maintenance shop and learn from technicians.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive training to perform repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles.
• Conduct detailed inspections, lubricate, and service vehicles.
• Check, fill, and change fluids and filters.
• Inspect vehicle support systems (electrical, air, brake).
• Identify and perform repairs to components and systems.
• Tire maintenance and TI A certification training.
• Ensure safety devices are functional.
• Assist senior technicians with repairs and maintenance.
• Perform housekeeping duties in shop.
• Interact professionally with customers and coworkers.
• Meet metrics per training program.
• Complete administrative duties (cycle counts, parts requisitions).
• May assist in other areas; travel within district.
