Job summary

South Bend Community School Corp Vehicle Maintenance Facility in South Bend, Indiana, seeks a Mechanic B– VMF Mechanic Helper to repair and maintain school buses and other district vehicles. Immediate start; 40 hours weekly with overtime as needed, under the VMF Mechanic Foreman and Director of Transportation.

Requirements include CDL-B, ASE preferred, five years of diesel/heavy-duty repair, a high school diploma or GED, and tools.

Qualifications

• ASE Certification preferred.
• CDL-Class B license required.
• Five years of diesel/heavy-duty engine repair experience.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical schooling in automotive/diesel repair or demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
• Experience with GVW 10,000 lb or more on trucks/buses.
• Resume and references from previous employers/instructors.
• Owns the necessary mechanical repair tools.
• Able to speak/write clearly and perform calculations.
• Able to guide other mechanics and work without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Repair and replacement of engine and drivetrain components as needed.
• Maintain exhaust, electrical, hydraulic, braking, heating and cooling systems.
• Perform regular preventive maintenance; grease/oil changes.
• Provide guidance to drivers when appropriate.
• Perform related work as required.
