Position Overview
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking enthusiastic individuals for the role of Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainees within the Allegheny County Maintenance Organization. This position offers hands-on experience in repairing and maintaining diesel and construction machinery, providing a foundation for a rewarding career in mechanics.
Responsibilities
- Engage in repair and maintenance of vehicles including cars, trucks, and heavy machinery.
- Learn to service equipment such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders.
- Assist in replacing components like shock absorbers, transmissions, and brakes.
- Participate in preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and minor body repairs.
- Perform safety inspections, document findings, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following safety procedures.
Work Schedule and Additional Info
- Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Travel, overtime, and shift work may be required.
- Salary details provided upon application; some positions may have non-negotiable starting salaries.
- No telework options available.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years as a Tradesman Helper in the automotive field or graduation from an accredited diesel technology program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s Permit or License.
- Must obtain a Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during probation.
- Operation of vehicles with manual transmission required.
- Position is subject to drug and alcohol testing per federal regulations.
