Job summary

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic to repair, maintain, and inspect diesel-powered vehicles and construction equipment to keep state fleets operating safely and efficiently.

You will diagnose problems, perform preventive maintenance, complete safety inspections, and make field adjustments as needed, with a 7:00 AM–3:00 PM schedule, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• Experience with diesel engines and construction equipment.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance and diagnostics.
• Familiarity with safety inspections and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components on diesel vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance to extend equipment life.
• Conduct official state safety and emissions inspections and document results.
• Diagnose mechanical problems using diagnostic tools and determine repair steps.
• Make routine field adjustments and minor repairs to support safe operation.
