Job summary

Fresenius Medical Care in South Miami area clinics seeks a Float Patient Care Technician to join the inpatient hemodialysis health care team. You will support one or more departments by providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Hemodialysis RN and participate in safety and quality initiatives.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, effective communication, and the Ishihara color vision test.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CMS-certified state or national certification requirements must be met within the required state or CMS timeline.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ishihara Color Blindness test is required as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under the direct supervision of the Fresenius RN for assigned patients in the dialysis suite.
• Report and document all incidents, complaints or problems to the RN.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment and support quality improvement activities.
• Set up and prime equipment for renal replacement therapies as directed by the Fresenius Nurse.
• Ensure dialysis machines are set up, tested and safe for treatment.
• Take pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights and report unusual findings.
• Document patient treatment information accurately in EMS and ACES.
• Assist with cannulation reporting as permitted by state requirements; report any unusual findings to the RN.
• Handle specimen collection and timely delivery to the laboratory as policy dictates.
• Monitor patient response to dialysis therapy and report changes to the RN.
• Assist in discharge and dressing application after venous access termination.
