Job summary

UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh is seeking a Radiologic Technologist (Diagnostic) to perform X-ray imaging procedures and ensure high-quality patient care. The role requires ARRT eligibility, completion of an approved program, and adherence to imaging protocols while documenting in electronic records.

You will work Monday through Friday 8:30a–5:00p with occasional shifts, on-site at 9100 Babcock Blvd. Generous incentives may apply for external candidates.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology or verification from ARRT approved school.
  • Eligibility to obtain ARRT radiologic technologist registration within specified timelines.
  • CPR/BLS certification and Act 31/33/34/73 clearances as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Identify patients using two identifiers and document history per protocols.
  • Administer oral and rectal contrast as ordered and document in RIS.
  • Perform diagnostic radiography procedures per established protocols.
  • Communicate instructions to patients and collaborate with the care team.
  • Adjust protocols based on independent judgment to apply ionizing radiation appropriately.

Responsibilities

As a Radiologic Technologist (Diagnostic, X-Ray Tech), you will perform imaging procedures independently, demonstrating proficiency in various technical tasks related to diagnostic radiography. Your responsibilities include:

  • Patient Identification and Documentation:
    • Accurately identify patients using two identifiers and adhere to universal protocols during procedures.
    • Review patient history and assess physician orders, following departmental protocols for optimal data acquisition.
    • Document patient history in electronic records as required.
  • Contrast Administration and Coding:
    • Administer oral (PO) and rectal contrast as per physician orders and department policies.
    • Ensure proper coding and tracking of exams within your area of responsibility using the RIS system.
    • Network all exams to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and enter charges appropriately.
  • Diagnostic Radiography:
    • Perform diagnostic radiography procedures using established protocols without constant supervision.
    • Operate complex imaging equipment, acquire, analyze, manipulate, and document image data according to protocol.
  • Interpersonal Skills and Teamwork:
    • Interact effectively with patients and co-workers, demonstrating empathy, respect, and active listening.
    • Collaborate as a team member within the department and across other departments to expedite patient care.
  • Independent Judgment and Communication:
    • Adjust protocols based on independent judgment to apply ionizing radiation appropriately.

Clearly communicate instructions to patients, allaying fears and ensuring cooperation during procedures

Qualifications

Qualifications – Internal

Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology or verification from ARRT approved school of completion of program and scheduled graduation date. Technologists hired before graduation will have indirect supervision by an ARRT certified diagnostic technologist until the degree is verified. Technologist cannot work in an outpatient setting until ARRT has been obtained.

Licensure, Certifications, And Clearances

ARRT Registry eligible as a Radiologic Technologist. Must obtain radiography registry within 6 months of hire date as of January 1, 2025. Diagnostic Technologists hired prior to January 1, 2025, will need to obtain their registry within 12 months of hire/transfer date. CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Technologist cannot work in an outpatient setting until ARRT has been obtained. If working in a NY facility, you must have received certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and be Licensed through the New York State Department of Health. If practicing under a temporary permit: must be under direct supervision of licensed radiologic technologist, must obtain ARRT certification within 180 days of permit issue date. Temporary permits expire 180 days from date of issuance, or upon notice that license application denied, or ten days after notification of failure of licensing exam, whichever occurs first. ARRT required within 12 months of hire date. Act 33/34/73 clearances required within 30 days of hire date.
