Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a Radiology Technologist Level I to perform imaging and related patient care within the Radiology Department. You will rotate across diagnostic areas, select appropriate exposure factors, and ensure high-quality imaging while minimizing radiation exposure.

Responsibilities include patient education, equipment operation, and collaboration with staff to maintain safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Must possess current Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided.
• ARRT certification in Radiography.
• Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
• State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

Responsibilities

• Rotates in all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, OR, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
• Performs image procedures based on patient assessment, service request, and imaging protocols.
• Produces high-quality images using imaging equipment and archiving systems.
• Selects exposure factors based on patient size and pathology for optimal image quality with minimal radiation exposure.
• Minimizes radiation exposure through shielding, collimation, inverse square law, and reducing repeats.
• Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to imaging for patient care and safety.
• Assesses patient needs and provides imaging-related comfort and support.
• Prepares contrast agents and sterile trays per guidelines for imaging procedures.
• Educates patients about radiographic procedures and answers questions.
• Promotes team collaboration among technicians, nursing, and medical staff.
• Participates in problem solving and quality improvement to support efficient, high-quality care.
• Adheres to ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH policies, and Joint Commission guidelines.
• Reports equipment failures immediately.
• Completes required in-services and competencies on time; contributes to patient care.
• Positions patients accurately per established protocols.
• Coordinates daily workflow and assists in clinical supervision of radiology students.
• Covers Level progression requirements: Level 1 (no experience), Level 2 (1 year), Level 3 (3 years), Level 4 (5 years).
