Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for the Assistant Director of Development for the School of Civic Life and Leadership. This role supports SCiLL’s development program, coordinating donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship while partnering with UDO and campus leadership to advance major giving.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with donors, alumni, colleagues, volunteers, and other constituents, and to collaborate effectively across teams and organizational levels.
• Critical thinking, sound judgment, discretion, and a proactive approach to managing projects, resolving issues, tracking deliverables, and communicating progress.
• Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it clearly and concisely to support decision‑making and donor engagement.
• Working knowledge of donor stewardship, fundraising, gift management, prospect development, event planning, and development operations, preferably within higher education or a nonprofit environment.
• Understanding donor interests, motivations, and philanthropic priorities and translate that understanding into meaningful engagement and stewardship strategies.
• Strong organizational and implementation skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
• Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems and using data, reports, and other information to support fundraising and donor engagement activities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional donor correspondence, briefings, reports, presentations, and other development materials.

Responsibilities

• Supports identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors for the SCiLL development program.
• Develops donor briefings, contact reports, proposals, and presentations to support fundraising activity.
• Maintains accurate donor records in the DAVIE CRM system and tracks fundraising progress.
• Coordinates donor meetings, campus visits, and events with SCiLL leadership and UDO partners.
