Job summary

Garrett Advancing Motion in Torrance, CA is seeking a Development Engineer to support end-to-end design to production of industrial centrifugal compressors. You will work with cross-functional teams to engage with customers and launch new products into production.

The role requires 3–5 years of experience in turbomachinery or related fields, familiarity with safety/quality processes, and the ability to travel up to 20% to customer sites. Fluency in English is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical/Automotive/Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in developing and/or launching products into production.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills for internal and external communication.
• 10–20% travel to manufacturing and/or customer sites.
• Fluent in English.

Responsibilities

• Ensure robust product implementation in the customer package through direct customer engagement.
• Coordinate activities with design, simulation, manufacturing, and suppliers to produce production-ready components.
• Define FMEA and execute DVP&R with prototype hardware, testing, analysis and summary.
• Support development of process documents (manufacturing, lab, design) to capture lessons learned.
• Drive field or launch issue resolution using root cause analysis tools (8D, 5WHY, Ishikawa).
• Generate VE ideas contributing to cost reduction in design, materials, and processes.
• Ensure adherence to budget and resources via the AOP process.
• Initiate benchmarking activities related to component and discipline.
