Job summary

Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville, MD, seeks a Director of Development to advance fundraising through donor engagement, stewardship, and strategic partnerships. The role manages a donor portfolio, drives weekly activity, and helps plan events in collaboration with the Advancement Team.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of fundraising experience, with strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365. Availability for evening and weekend events is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required. Three years of progressive fundraising or comparable experience preferred, ideally in an independent school or nonprofit setting.
• Proven success in major-gift and leadership-gift fundraising or a comparable professional field.
• High-level proficiency in Microsoft 365.
• Experience with a CRM database, including Blackbaud’s Raiser's Edge NXT or a similar platform.
• Enthusiasm for Mount de Sales Academy's mission, values, and school community.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail.
• Collaborative leadership style with teamwork and shared success.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a major gift officer, managing a portfolio of donors and prospects through all stages of the fundraising cycle: identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Leverage the school’s CRM system to track efforts, actions, calls, and visits.
• Demonstrate initiative in identifying new prospects across all donor tiers.
• Develop relationships with existing donors and cultivate new donor relationships.
• Conduct an agreed-upon number of meaningful donor contacts each week.
• Achieve an agreed-upon number of meaningful visits each week (in person or virtual).
• Develop collaborative donor-giving strategies with the Advancement Team.
• Represent MDSA at events and donor engagements, supporting all Advancement events including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Achieve fundraising goals monthly, quarterly, and annually as set by the Executive Director of Advancement.
