Qualifications

  • Certificate or Associate's degree with 2+ years of experience, or equivalent.
  • Nonprofit fundraising and donor relations experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor donor inquiries via email and phone; respond professionally.
  • Draft donor thank-you letters and stewardship communications.
  • Make donor thank-you calls to cultivate relationships.
  • Assist with volunteer engagement and on-site support.
  • Support events logistics and day-of coordination.
  • Ensure accurate donation tracking and acknowledgment.
  • Assist with CRM/database administration and reporting.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Development Team.
  • Handle additional duties to support fundraising and engagement.

Location: Bellevue, WA Schedule: 20-25 hours/week through December 2026 Compensation: $32-$34 per hour

The Sophia Way is seeking a detail-oriented, mission-driven Development Coordinator to support our fundraising, donor relations, and volunteer engagement efforts. This part-time, temporary role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative nonprofit environment, enjoys building relationships, and is passionate about supporting women experiencing homelessness.

The Sophia Way is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping adult women in King County transition from homelessness to stable living. We provide shelter, supportive services, and a compassionate community rooted in dignity, respect, and empowerment.

Position Overview

The Development Coordinator plays a key role in strengthening donor stewardship, supporting fundraising activities, and ensuring smooth administrative operations within the Development Department. This position supports both day-to-day tasks and special projects that help advance our mission and deepen community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor Development email accounts and respond to donor, volunteer, and partner inquiries.
  • Draft and send personalized donor thank‑you letters, emails, and other stewardship communications.
  • Make donor thank‑you calls to cultivate relationships and support gift solicitation.
  • Assist with volunteer engagement and provide on‑site support for volunteer activities.
  • Support donor, volunteer, and corporate events, including logistics, coordination, and day‑of assistance.
  • Ensure accurate donation tracking, processing, and acknowledgment.
  • Assist with CRM/database administration, data entry, and reporting.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Development Team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support fundraising and donor engagement.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Certificate or Associate's degree and at least 2 years of professional experience, or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience in the nonprofit sector is preferred.
  • Familiarity with donor databases, CRM systems, and volunteer management tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time‑management, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, networking, and community engagement.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in fast‑paced or crisis situations.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, ethical conduct, and high‑quality work.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to travel between work sites and attend off‑site events as needed.
  • Ability to obtain a recent negative TB test and CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens certifications upon hire (if not current).
Working Conditions
  • Extended periods of computer and phone use.
  • Frequent movement between work areas and travel to shelter sites and events.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • Occasional stair use.
