Job description

Description

Position Summary

Maine Veterans' Homes is seeking a Development Coordinator to lead its philanthropic program across six residential care facilities statewide. Reporting directly to the CEO, this person will bring professional fundraising expertise to an organization with strong community roots and real philanthropic potential. The role coordinates and builds on the donor relationships already cultivated at the home level.

After a period without dedicated development staff, the organization is ready to rebuild and advance its fundraising program with focused, professional leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy
  • Set annual fundraising goals in partnership with the CEO; build and execute strategies to meet them
  • Manage the annual fund: direct mail appeals, email campaigns, and calendar sponsorship solicitation in collaboration with Marketing on content and production.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a personal portfolio of major gift prospects; partner with the CEO on significant asks
Multi-Site Coordination
  • Coordinate solicitation activity across all six homes to prevent duplication and ensure consistent messaging
  • Coach and support Home Administrators and Resident Activities Directors on donor engagement
  • Capture donor interactions from home-level staff and ensure accurate, timely records in CharityProud
Donor Database Oversight
  • Set standards for how customer relationships and databases is used organizationally — what data is captured, how it's maintained, and how it informs strategy
  • Guide the administrative staff responsible for gift entry and acknowledgment letters
  • Lead continued optimization of the platform as a strategic fundraising tool
Stewardship and Retention
  • Ensure acknowledgment is timely and appropriate at all giving levels
  • Build and monitor donor retention practices
Board Partnership
  • Provide regular development updates to the CEO and periodic reports to the Board
  • Support the Board’s engagement in philanthropy as that role develops over time
Shift

40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, day shift. Hybrid work schedule based on operational needs, requiring a combination of remote work and in-person attendance at the Home Office as needed. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support fundraising events, donor stewardship activities, and community engagement.
