Job description

Summary: Georgia Innocence Project (GIP) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to correcting and preventing wrongful convictions in Georgia, primarily by providing pro bono legal services to people convicted of serious crimes that they did not commit. Georgia Innocence Project is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and tech-savvy Development Coordinator with exceptional writing skills and a passion for the criminal legal system to help communicate our mission and drive our fundraising efforts forward. We aim to bring this new member onto our team by July 1, 2025.

This full-time, entry-level position reports to the Development Manager and will play a key role in supporting our growing development department. This position requires 2-3 days each week in our Atlanta office and allows for remote work for the other days. Occasionally, work on evenings and weekends may be required for events and deadlines. This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to build a long-term career in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on grant writing, communications, donor engagement, and administrative support.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Grants and Foundations (45%)

  • Research potential funders—track down new grant opportunities that align with our mission and programs using online tools, networks, and databases.
  • Write and edit grant materials for government, corporate, and private foundations, including compelling narratives, budgets, reports, and supporting documents.
  • Support grant strategy development by helping the Executive Director and Development Manager identify annual grant priorities and develop approaches to high-potential funders.
  • Own the grants calendar—maintain deadlines, submission timelines, reporting dates, and proposal progress across all active and prospective grants.
  • Manage foundation communications—log correspondence, save key documents, and help ensure personalized and timely follow-up with funders.
  • Coordinate across departments to gather data, stories, financials, and other materials needed for applications and reports.
  • Track and report grant impact by helping compile program updates, outcome metrics, and success stories.
  • Ensure grant compliance and organization-wide alignment by working closely with the Development Manager to monitor deliverables and keep internal teams on track
  • Help improve our systems by keeping grant files tidy, templates up-to-date, and processes streamlined for the future.

Content Creation and Delivery (45%)

  • Draft and manage donor-facing content and media for digital communications including email newsletters, fundraising appeals, blog and social media posts, and website updates.
  • Ensure the website remains accurate, up to date, and aligned with GIP’s brand and messaging.
  • Help develop storytelling materials by collaborating with key stakeholders to spotlight powerful stories of impact while ensuring experiences are told accurately and respectfully
  • Track basic metrics and engagement (e.g., email open rates, social media interactions) to help assess trends in engagement and where we can improve.
  • Assist with campaign strategy and creative brainstorming for print and digital fundraising efforts throughout the year.
  • Support the execution of fundraising campaigns by contributing copy, graphics, and creative ideas that align with campaign goals.
  • Pitch in with event communications, such as promotional materials, event recap emails, or live social content from mission-related events.

General Development Team Support (10%)

  • Support signature events like our annual fundraiser and Wrongful Conviction Day gatherings—help with sponsorship, planning, promotion, logistics, day-of support, and follow-up
  • Assist with donor research and outreach prep—help identify prospective major donors or community partners and gather background information for meetings or mailings
  • Maintain accurate donor records by supporting data entry, clean-up, and documentation in Bloomerang, our donor database
  • Help with donor stewardship—assist with mailings, thank-you notes, and other ways we show appreciation to the folks who support our work
  • Contribute to team meetings and brainstorms—share your ideas and voice in regular planning sessions and strategy conversations
  • Provide regular updates to and perform other duties as assigned by the Development Manager

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
