Buckelew Programs in Santa Rosa, CA seeks an entry-level behavioral health counselor to support clients with mental health and co-occurring disorders. You will conduct assessments, provide counseling, and help with crisis intervention in a compassionate setting.

Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, coordinating referrals, and supporting daily operations. A High School Diploma is required, with AOD certification preferred or in progress; weekend availability may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification as Alcohol/Drug Counselor preferred or in state-approved program (CAARR/CADTP/CCAPP).
• Experience with mental health and/or co-occurring disorders preferred.
• Familiarity with AA/NA Twelve-Step programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct client assessments, intakes, discharges, and charting.
• Provide one-on-one counseling and emotional support to clients.
• Intervene in crisis situations and enforce facility rules.
• Document all client information and incidents clearly in logs.
• Monitor self-administered medication and supervise group sessions.

Job Details: Level: Entry, Job Location: Orenda - Santa Rosa, CA, Position Type: Full Time, Education Level: High School, Salary Range: $27.00 - $29.00Hourly, Travel Percentage: Up to 25%, Job Shift: Swing, Job Category: Health Care, Join Buckelew and work with great people doing great things! Buckelew Programs is a leading provider of behavioral healthcare services in the North Bay, providing compassionate mental health, supported housing and substance use treatment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct client assessments, intakes, discharges, and maintain accurate charting.
• Provide one-on-one counseling and emotional support to clients.
• Make appropriate client referrals and attend to their individual needs.
• Intervene in crisis situations; enforce facility rules and respond collaboratively with staff.
• Manage walk-in emergencies, including evaluating the need to contact emergency services (911).
• Document all client information and incidents clearly and promptly in logs.
• Coordinate and manage volunteer donations as needed.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of clients and staff at all times.
• Maintain professional boundaries and uphold strict client confidentiality.
• Facilitate and monitor therapeutic or educational group sessions.
• Monitor and document clients' self-administered medication.
• Participate in supervision with the Program Director.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
• Support the structure and daily operation of the facility in alignment with its mission.
• Monitor inventory and report facility maintenance needs.
• Oversee and assist with facility chores, including laundry.
• Provide transportation using personal or agency vehicles as needed.

Education & Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor preferred or currently enrolled in a State-approved certification program (e.g., CAARR, CADTP, CCAPP).
• Experience working with individuals with mental health and/or co-occurring disorders preferred.
• Familiarity with AA/NA Twelve-Step recovery programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
• Capable of intermittent physical activities such as stretching, bending, squatting, reaching, and twisting.
• Able to sustain extended activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and writing.
• Adequate vision for reading printed and electronic materials.
• Must complete and clear a TB test as required by the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position must register and work toward Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor through CADTP, CCAPP, or another State-approved organization. Certification must be completed within five years of registration. Failure to obtain or maintain certification may result in termination of employment.
