Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Detention Officer to perform jail guard duties at the Dallas Inebriate Detention Center or Dallas County Jail. You will process and monitor prisoners, conduct searches, and ensure security and order.

Responsibilities include booking, fingerprinting, medical screenings, housing determination, incident reporting, and assisting with intake. A background check, drug test, and valid license are required; candidates must be able to work varied 8-hour shifts in a 24/7

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of work experience.
• Must pass an intensive background investigation and drug test.
• No felony or certain misdemeanors in specified periods.
• Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Processes incoming/outgoing prisoners and escorts them.
• Books, fingerprints, and screens prisoners; assign housing.
• Conducts searches and facility inspections; uses security systems.
• Monitors prisoners and uses approved restraint methods as needed.
• Ensure medical/mental health treatment is provided when necessary.
• Enter arrest information into the system and maintain logs.
• Assist with intake processing and maintain cell cleanliness.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
