Job summary

Dallas City Hall is seeking an entry-level Detention Officer I to perform jail guard duties at the Dallas City Detention Center. You will process prisoners, book and fingerprint, and maintain logs while ensuring safety and order within the facility.

The role requires focus, adherence to procedures, ability to communicate effectively, and willingness to work 24/7 shifts. Training provided and opportunity for growth within civil service detention operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of relevant law enforcement experience.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Must pass intensive background and drug test.
• No felonies or disqualifying offenses.

Responsibilities

• Process incoming and outgoing adult prisoners and escort to cells.
• Book and fingerprint prisoners per guidelines.
• Conduct searches and maintain prisoner property inventory.
• Monitor prisoners and ensure safety and security.
• Assist with medical and mental health referrals as needed.
• Maintain detention logs and incident reports.
• Keep cells clean and orderly.
• Operate jail security equipment as required.
