Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Detention Officer to perform jail guard duties at the Dallas Inebriate Detention Center or Dallas County Jail. Duties include processing prisoners, housing determinations, and ensuring security.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience; an associate degree is acceptable. Valid driver’s license and background checks required; work schedules are 24/7 with eight-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Process incoming/outgoing prisoners; escort to cells.
• Books, fingerprints, and medically screen prisoners.
• Operate security systems and conduct searches.
• Monitor prisoner activities and restrain when necessary.
• Ensure medical/mental health treatment is provided.
• Enter arrest information into criminal system.
• Maintain detention logs and incident reports.
• Assist with intake processing and facility cleanliness.
