Job summary

Denton County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Detention Officer I to perform specialized law enforcement work in the care and security of inmates in the County Jail. Duties include admitting and booking inmates, monitoring security, handling inmate property, and transporting inmates to court and medical appointments.

Must meet CJIS and TCOLE requirements and complete background checks. Requires 18+ years old, High School diploma or GED, U.S.

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age.
High School diploma or GED required.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must attain certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Jailer within one (1) year of employment.
Possession of a valid Driver's License. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days.
Applicants must complete a fingerprint-based criminal history and background investigation and must meet CJIS and TCOLE requirements.

Responsibilities

Admit and book inmates; supervise trustees; ensure jail security and inmate welfare.
Monitor cameras and emergency systems; transport inmates to and from court and medical appointments.
Supervise inmate workers and oversee prison operations such as meals, laundry, and housekeeping.
Log inmate property, conduct population counts, and enforce jail rules and regulations.
Respond to public inquiries and assist visitors regarding inmate status.
