Job summary

Buncombe County is seeking a Detention Center Maintenance Technician III to lead a small crew and perform skilled maintenance across carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, welding, and electrical trades. The role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment.

The incumbent will supervise three technicians, handle work orders, purchase materials, and participate in an on-call rotation to support the Detention Center’s critical operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with four years of progressively increasing maintenance experience.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license and ability to obtain county credentials.
• Experience in multiple trades and the ability to supervise a small crew.
• Proven record of safety training and maintaining facilities in a secure environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance and repair across carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, welding, and electrical trades.
• Maintain work orders and related documentation; track materials and purchases.
• Source materials, obtain bids, and manage procurement per policy.
• Lead and supervise a team of three maintenance technicians; participate in on-call rotations.
