Job summary

Francis Marion University invites applications for a Desktop Support Technician who, under limited supervision, provides Help Desk, Dispatch services and computer support to the FMU community. Assists other technicians with preventive maintenance, desktop support and the distribution of equipment.

FMU IT Services Specialist III position requires IT knowledge, strong communication with faculty, staff and students, and the ability to handle a variety of equipment and issues efficiently.

Qualifications

• Associate or higher in IT may substitute for required work experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Windows and TCP/IP configurations is required.
• Ability to diagnose desktop computers and network problems.

Job description

Francis Marion University invites applications for a Desktop Support Technician who, under limited supervision, provides Help Desk, Dispatch services and computer support to the FMU community. Assists other technicians with preventive maintenance, desktop support and the distribution of equipment.

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assist in the maintenance of hardware and software inventories.
• Troubleshoot basic user errors in systems and find resolutions.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation of common issues and solutions.
• Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical users.
• Suggest and implement improvements to enhance customer satisfaction and service delivery.
• Assist in the deployment and configuration of software and hardware solutions and system integrations, upgrades, and migrations.
• Provide excellent customer service to ensure customer satisfaction.

State Requirements:

A high school diploma and experience in office automation systems, data communications system design, installation, operation, repair, sales or marketing, or processing of information in a data processing environment or related systems. An associate degree or a bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for the required work experience.

FMU Preferred Requirements:

An associate degree or higher in an information technology field with one to two years’ experience with microcomputers and LAN technologies required. Experience with Microsoft Windows and TCP/IP configurations is required. Must be able to diagnose desktop computers and their network problems and formulate resolution; provide training for student assistants; and learn quickly how to service a variety of equipment. Must be able to communicate with faculty, staff and students accurately and confidently on technical matters in as non-technical a fashion as appropriate to the client.
