Job summary

Rocket Money is seeking a Design System Engineer to grow our shared UI primitives, tokens, and patterns across React Native and web. You will partner with designers and engineers to improve components, accessibility, and documentation, enabling teams to ship polished experiences.

You’ll contribute to motion design and interaction quality while helping adoption of our design system at scale and maintaining a healthy, well-tested foundation for future work.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in professional software engineering, building user-facing product experiences with React/React Native/TypeScript.
• Strong frontend fundamentals and commitment to reliable, maintainable UI.
• Hands-on accessibility experience or strong interest in inclusive digital products.
• Interest in design systems: APIs, tokens, docs, adoption, and balance between flexibility and standardization.
• Excellent collaboration with designers and engineers; able to translate design into durable implementation.
• Curiosity about motion design and interaction details to improve product experience.
• Clear written and code communication; able to document usage patterns and explain tradeoffs.
• Comfort with ambiguity and breaking large improvements into safe, incremental steps.
• Excited to grow in a mid-level role on a team that values craft and high-leverage systems work.

Responsibilities

• Build accessible, reusable components; contribute to React Native and web libraries with focus on quality and accessibility.
• Evolve design system foundations: components, tokens, patterns, docs, and tooling for consistent experiences.
• Partner across design and engineering; understand needs and translate design intent into durable implementation.
• Strengthen accessibility practices; identify gaps and raise the bar for accessibility across product work.
• Contribute to motion and interaction quality; work on motion design, micro-interactions, and transitions.
• Improve documentation and examples; create Storybook usage guidance, migration notes, and technical docs.
• Support adoption at scale; help teams migrate to shared components and patterns based on real usage.
• Keep the foundation healthy; write tests, maintain quality, and participate in code reviews for reliability.
