Job summary

Travelers seeks an experienced design professional claim counsel within Bond & Specialty Insurance in Colorado. The role involves advising underwriting and non-attorney claims teams on professional liability claims, including architects and engineers, with opportunities to influence claim strategy and outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have a JD, active license, and 2+ years of relevant legal experience, with travel ability and strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Two years of relevant legal experience.
• Licensed/authorized to practice law in the jurisdiction.
• Ability to travel occasionally.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims with supervisory support.
• Prepare reports on loss development, financial exposure, reserve changes, and coverage issues.
• Manage outside counsel using litigation management plans and budgets.
• Communicate significant claim exposures to underwriting.
• Identify recovery opportunities and coordinate with Recovery Management and Claims teams.
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and depositions as needed.
• Draft coverage opinions with applicable case law.
• Negotiate settlements and review releases including confidentiality provisions.
• Support underwriting with broker visits and risk mitigation materials.
• Draft reference materials to inform underwriting and claims decisions on law impacting Travelers.
