Job summary

Mortenson Construction seeks an experienced Design Phase Manager I to translate the owner's vision into robust design and construction parameters. You will lead design teams, coordinate with owners, and manage budgets and schedules for complex projects.

The role requires collaboration across disciplines, strong communication, and the ability to travel as needed. Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field.
• Minimum of six years relevant experience.
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Detail orientation to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
• Understand construction law and standard business practices.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, project, and relevant web apps.
• Proven positive, professional attitude and customer service skills.
• Ability to travel up to 100%.

Responsibilities

• Manage the design process and define project expectations with owners.
• Coordinate design with designers for design-build projects.
• Develop and present project proposals.
• Create detailed design phase and baseline construction schedules.
• Plan construction logistics, including subcontractor selections.
• Lead design team to incorporate constructability and customer expectations.
• Guide estimating on technical design and cost documentation.
• Manage design phase costs, value engineering, and budgets.
• Ensure regulatory approvals and risk management compliance.
• Implement LEED tracking and analysis.
• Mentor design phase team and participate in hiring decisions.
• Oversee site work logistics and provide improvements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
