Job summary

Leighton Asia is seeking a high-calibre Design Manager (MEP) to lead design management and coordination for data centre projects in Thailand. You will act as the main liaison between the construction team, external consultants, and the client’s design team, ensuring design integrity and constructability from development through execution.

The role requires at least 10 years in MEP design/design management, strong MEP knowledge across electrical, cooling, fire protection, plumbing and building

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in MEP design, design management, or coordination.
• Experience in Design & Construct projects with consultant and contractor exposure.
• Good knowledge of MEP systems for data centre projects.
• Familiarity with Thai laws, regulations, and standards for design and construction.

Responsibilities

Job Duties

Design and Engineering Management

• Act as the primary link between the construction team and external design consultants on all MEP-related matters.
• Act as the primary link between the project team and the client’s design team on all MEP design-related items.
• Manage and coordinate consultants during design development and project execution for data centre projects.
• Provide clear direction on design approach, schedule, priorities, and deliverables to external consultants to support construction activities.
• Engage with Project/Site Engineers and the Construction Management team to incorporate site constraints, construction methodology, and project requirements into the design.
• Review and resolve design-related queries, discrepancies, and technical issues in a timely manner.
• Verify MEP designs and review deliverables for completeness, coordination, constructability, and accuracy.
• Support tender activities by reviewing technical requirements, developing design strategies, and providing input on buildability, methodology, and value engineering opportunities.

Site Operations Coordination and Monitoring

• Engage with Site Engineers and the Construction Management team to understand design requirements, gather technical input, and support project execution.
• Provide technical guidance to the project team to ensure MEP works are executed in accordance with the approved design intent.
• Conduct periodic inspections of MEP works on site and monitor execution for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Participate in weekly design / coordination meetings with the site team, and provide updates on engineering and design progress.
• Support the resolution of technical, coordination, and site-related issues during construction and commissioning stages.

Compliance Review and Monitoring

• Review all MEP designs for compliance with sound engineering practice, project requirements, relevant codes, standards, and local authority requirements in Thailand.
• Review drawings and documents for compliance with company procedures, drafting standards, and project documentation requirements.
• Ensure proper filing and control of design documents, drawings, submissions, and design deliverable schedules.
• Identify and support the resolution of non-compliances and design coordination issues.

People Management

• Manage, guide, and mentor team members on technical and behavioural aspects of their roles.
• Support the development of team capabilities through coaching, training, and knowledge sharing.
• Promote effective collaboration across design, project, and site teams.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in MEP design, design management, or engineering coordination, preferably in data centre, mission-critical, or large-scale building projects.
• Experience in Design & Construct projects, with exposure to both consultant and contractor environments preferred.
• Good knowledge of MEP systems and design processes for data centre projects, including electrical, cooling, fire protection, plumbing, and associated building services.
• Familiarity with relevant Thai laws, regulations, authority requirements, and engineering standards applicable to design and construction works in Thailand.
• Professional engineering license in Thailand will be an advantage.
• Experience in tender support, technical reviews, value engineering, and design coordination will be an advantage.
• Good command of both written and spoken English and Thai.
