Job summary

United Utility Services is seeking a Design Lead to provide technical leadership for a team of designers while performing advanced design work for utility projects across the US. The role coordinates activities, mentors staff, and ensures design standards are consistently applied.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of design experience, strong CAD, GIS, and BIM skills, and the ability to travel occasionally. This office-based position offers collaborative work with engineering and project teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of design experience.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience.
• Advanced knowledge of design standards, drafting practices, and project execution.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the work of design staff across multiple projects.
• Review design deliverables for quality, accuracy, and client requirements.
• Mentor designers through coaching, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Support workload planning and project coordination with supervisors and project managers.
• Promote consistency in drafting standards, documentation, and design practices.
• Participate in QA/QC reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate technical activities with engineering, construction, and project management teams.
• Support proposal development, estimating, and planning activities as required.
• Assist with resolving complex design issues and project challenges.
• Foster a collaborative culture focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
