Job summary

Santa Clara Unified School District seeks an instructional assistant to support students in a maker space/design lab. You will operate and maintain hi-tech equipment, respond to questions, and help staff with programs and tools. Experience with design/engineering practices and STEM activities is preferred.

Strong English communication and interpersonal skills are required, as is the ability to learn on the job and perform clerical duties including records management.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and one year experience with school-age children in an organized setting and some maker space or design lab operation.
• Knowledge of design and/or engineering practices in relation to STEM and familiarity with maker space tools (robotics, 3-D design/printing).
• Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary, plus strong oral and written communication.
• Good interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy are essential.
• Ability to learn on the job and perform clerical duties including maintaining records.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional assistance to individuals or groups of students in a maker space or design lab learning environment.
• Operate, adjust and maintain hi-tech equipment related to maker space and design labs.
• Respond to questions, train and assist students and staff as needed with programs and equipment.
