Job summary

University of California, Santa Cruz is seeking a versatile Engineering Technician to support instructional labs, manage supplies, and assist with AV and lab IT duties. The role emphasizes hands-on work with lab equipment, soldering, and providing technical assistance to students and faculty.

The position may involve remote work portions and requires working primarily on campus with some flexibility based on departmental needs.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively.
Experience operating lab bench test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies).
Ability to solder circuit boards and components.
Proficiency in at least one major programming language (Java, C, C++, C#, Python).

Responsibilities

50% - Instructional Lab Support: source and purchase supplies, maintain inventory, and support course kits.
10% - Computer Support for Lab Workstations: update software, image master systems, troubleshoot issues.
20% - AV Support for Baskin Engineering event spaces: operate and support installed AV systems.
20% - Electronics stockroom, poster printing & receiving backup: manage inventory, assist with sourcing materials, run poster printing.
