Job summary

Palmetto State Armory is seeking a Design Engineer II for R&D in West Columbia, SC. The role focuses on developing firearm systems and subsystems, leveraging SolidWorks and CAD tools to create robust designs and drive manufacturing readiness. Travel may be infrequent, and confidentiality is required.

The engineer collaborates with the product development team to deliver designs aligned with cost targets and development timelines, while applying stringent design for manufacturability principles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of design engineering experience; firearm development experience preferred.
• SolidWorks and/or other 3D CAD software proficiency.
• GD&T and functional dimensioning scheme understanding.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for technical design support and contributions to the Product Development team.
• Own product design and performance for current and previous products.
• Create new or improved designs based on specifications, targets, and timelines.
• Generate CAD models and drawings with functional dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Support manufacturing ramp up and supplier collaboration for scalable designs.
• Lead tolerance studies and QAP identification.
• Assist in IP development through patent searches and trade studies.
