Job summary
Palmetto State Armory L in West Columbia, SC, is seeking a Lead Design Engineer II to lead a team in firearm product development, researching and developing new products and existing lines. You will guide engineers in design, analysis, testing, and the overall product development process to create complex firearms systems.
The role requires 8+ years of design engineering experience, proficiency in SolidWorks, and strong manufacturing-focused mindset to scale production.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 8+ years of design engineering experience; firearm development experience preferred.
- Proficient in SolidWorks and 3D CAD; GD&T knowledge.
- Strong communication with executive management; ability to lead a technical work group.
- Experience enabling design for manufacturing across multiple techniques (machining, molding, stamping, casting).
Responsibilities
- Lead design activities from idea through production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to hand off to production.
- Create CAD models and drawings with proper tolerancing.
- Support testing and iterate designs to meet requirements.
- Assist with manufacturing ramp up and supplier coordination.
- Provide guidance to junior engineers.
- Ensure safe firearm handling practices.
