Job summary

Apex Engineering Group, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer for the Transportation Group. The role supports highway and urban roadway projects from planning through design and construction across flexible Apex office locations, including Fargo, ND.

Hybrid work is available, with potential field responsibilities and business development involvement. Ideal candidates have a Civil Engineering degree, PE license (ND/MN) or the ability to obtain it within 6–12 months, and 5+ years of highway design

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering required.
• MN or ND Professional Engineers License preferred or ability to be licensed in MN or ND within 6-12 months required.
• 5 or more years of highway/roadway design experience preferred.
• Knowledge of MNDOT or NDDOT design and project development process preferred.
• Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation Connect; corridor modeling and design software highly preferred.
• Ability to work in other civil design software platforms (AutoCAD / Civil 3D) a plus.
• Experience in designing municipal/urban projects with underground utilities is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Must be detail oriented, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• A valid driver's license is required or the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional civil engineering services for clients by offering planning, design, specifications, plans, reports, construction observation and project management.
• Delegate and supervise project tasks to CADD Technicians, Graduate Engineers and Field Technicians on the project team.
• Communicate frequently with supervisors and project managers on updates during all phases.
• Attend company, project and client meetings regularly.
• This position may involve business development and interviewing for new work.
• This role may lead to a Project Manager or Client Manager, including budgets and financial performance.
• Communicate effectively with the public at involvement meetings and construction notifications.
• Think independently and make rational judgments; act as project engineer and owner's on-site representative.
• Proficiently utilize CAD tools to prepare plan documents and follow company CADD procedures.
