Job summary

CTR Group in Newport News, VA is seeking a Design Engineer to develop and refine components and systems using CAD tools such as Inventor, NX, and CATIA. You will gather information, perform calculations, and prepare initial layouts to present design proposals.

You will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning teams to ensure designs meet manufacturing ease, material availability, and contractual specifications.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or 2-year technical degree with 6 years relevant experience.
• ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree will not be considered.
• Associate’s Degree can be substituted with 2 years related or 4 years non-related experience or Navy Nuclear Power School.

Responsibilities

• Develop concept designs using CAD tools (Inventor, NX).
• Create component manufacturing drawings.
• Perform impact studies using Ship Product Model.
• Update databases to reflect design changes.
• Revise AWE technical manual instructions as needed.
• Collaborate with engineers to assess design fit, form, and function.
• Conduct ship-checks, including climbing ladders, working at heights, and accessing tight spaces.
• Engage with construction personnel to review and incorporate design changes.
• Oversee junior designers.
