Job summary

Missouri Department of Natural Resources seeks a licensed engineer to develop detailed AML reclamation plans, coordinate with landowners, and supervise construction and surveying teams in Jefferson City. This position will be located at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City MO – 40-hour work week.

  • Develop and design detailed professional plans and specifications for reconstructing Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) with reclamation projects, while meeting the landowner’s needs. Must use sound engineering practices including grading plans, storm water drainage control, spillway design, survey control, testing, and sampling. Completed design plans are required to be stamped and signed by a Professional Engineer.
  • Design plans using various software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, Global Mapper) including remote sensory data sources, collecting site specific survey data of topography, building structures, drainage structures, or roads.
  • Effectively coordinate with the (AML) team and private or public landowners to outline a detailed scope of work for the design and construction of abandoned mine land reclamation projects. Including the ability to adjust the design plans as necessary to meet all the reclamation goals.
  • Direct and/or coordinate the work of construction and survey crews, contractors, and other professional, technical, and sub-professional personnel to ensure that work completed accomplishes the intended engineering design of the project.
  • Perform engineering and technical reviews of coal permit applications and actions as assigned by the unit supervisor.
  • Occasional daily travel for onsite inspection, data acquisition, and construction meetings.

  • Problem Solving: Identifies and analyzes problems; willingly accept other ideas by weighing the relevance and accuracy of information to find compromise; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations.
  • Project Management:Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring, and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program with at least four full years of satisfactory engineering experience, as required for licensure.
