Job summary

Star Cutter Company in Farmington Hills, MI is seeking a Design Engineer to join our tooling team. You will design and modify carbide cutting tools, create 3D models in SolidWorks, generate 2D drawings in AutoCAD, and support manufacturing with robust designs.

Ideal candidates have an Associate's degree or equivalent, 1–2 years in tooling manufacturing, and proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. ITAR compliance is required.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• 1 to 2 years’ experience in tooling manufacturing preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• Must meet ITAR compliance requirements

Responsibilities

• Act as an expert for tooling designs by designing and modifying designs to production and application of carbide cutting tools.
• Assist with ongoing programming and developing of inspection standards to meet Star Cutter Quality standards.
• Improve design processes by assisting with developing and modifying design standards with an emphasis on robust designs completed in timely and efficient manner.
• Create 3D modelling utilizing SolidWorks and 2D drawings as needed utilizing AutoCAD.
• Support continuous improvement activities throughout the manufacturing process utilizing manufacturing processes and engineering techniques.
• Directly support the Return Merchandise Authorization process working with plant quality requirements for timely processing and evaluations
• Work closely with application engineering and commercial sales to ensure designed and manufactured products perform to customer expectations
