Job summary

Southland Industries in Carrollton, TX, seeks a preconstruction engineer to oversee design-build/design-assist projects. You will manage design schedules, coordinate with disciplines, and support contract reviews while driving QA/QC and design optimization.

Ideal candidates have a BS in engineering or construction science, 3+ years of experience, and proficiency with Autodesk/ Revit and MS Office. EIT is preferred; role requires autonomous and team collaboration to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Science or equivalent training/experience.
• 3+ years of practical engineering or construction management experience.
• Active EIT Certification preferred.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and in a team while meeting deadlines.
• Advanced computer proficiency, including MS Office; familiarity with Autodesk products and Revit.
• Exposure to calculations and design.
• Exposure to Detailing/VDC requirements.
• Understanding of building codes and standards.
• Exposure to Project Life Cycle.

Responsibilities

• Manages small-scale design-build/design-assist projects and internal phases of larger projects.
• Ensures delivery of high-quality projects within time frames.
• Manages input/output of project data in tracking systems.
• Develops and manages design schedules; interfaces with disciplines, contractors, architects, and team members.
• Assists in contract review between company and customers or subconsultants.
• Coordinates design process with engineering, detailing, and VDC teams; determines efficient methods for complex problems.
• Assists in plan/spec analysis for clear construction document interpretations.
• Manages the design QA/QC process.
• Provides basic scoping for cost impact studies or design optimizations.
• Performs on-site field surveys for design data; creates RFIs and submittals.
