Job summary

Free People is seeking a Design Assistant to support the Free-est design team in developing private label product, with a focus on Free-est Knits and Sweaters. You will assist from concept through production, sketching, and collaboration with the Designer/Design Director.

You will help design seasonal collections, participate in design meetings, and use Procreate, Illustrator, and AI tools to enhance market research and presentation layouts. On-site work required in Philadelphia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design or related field.
• 0-2 years related design experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proactive and self-motivated in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative across cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work on site at Navy Yard, Philadelphia, PA (3-5 days a week).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to creation, development, and execution of own brand product for Free People Free-est team, focusing on Knits & Sweaters.
• Assist in creating products that reflect the Free-est customer across Sets, Bottoms, Tops & 3rd pieces.
• Support design processes including sketching with Procreate and Adobe Illustrator; research trends and use AI for research.
• Maintain weekly Design Flow Meeting notes and follow up on issues with the manager.
• Support seasonal development calendar with the Free-est design team.
• Execute design development projects as assigned by the Designer/Design Director.
• Assist in developing design packages and coordinate with Design Coordinator & Product Development teams.
• Prepare technical sketches for domestic and overseas programs and manage updates.
• Set up spec sheets for private label products and assist with developments & communication.
• Communicate fit and construction details to cross-functional partners and manage fit notes recap.
• Research industry trends, color directions, and fabric innovations for Free People target customer.
• Produce original design ideas through draped & sewn mocks for key meetings.
• Collaborate with the Free-est team on presentation layouts for buyers and Brand leaders.
