Job summary

URBN Urban Outfitters, Inc. – Free People in Philadelphia seeks a Design Assistant to support the Free-est design team.

You will help develop private label product, assist the Designer/Design Director, and contribute to seasonal collections with sketching, sewing/mocking, and in-house development for Free-est cut & sew knits and sweaters. You will participate in design processes from concept to production, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and support in creating design packages

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design required.
• 0-2 years related design experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proactive and self-motivated in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative attitude across cross-functional teams is key.
• Ability to work on site at Navy Yard, Philadelphia, PA 3-5 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to creation, development, and execution of own-brand product for Free People Free-est team, focusing on Knits & Sweaters.
• Assist in creating products that reflect the Free-est customer within Sets, Bottoms, Tops & 3rd pieces.
• Assist design process with sketching ideas using Procreate or Adobe Illustrator; research trends; utilize AI for research.
• Maintain active role in weekly Design Flow Meetings; take notes and follow up on issues with manager.
• Support seasonal development calendar with the Free-est design team.
• Execute specific design development projects as assigned by Designer/Design Director.
• Assist in developing and executing all design packages and coordinate with Design Coordinator & Product Development teams.
• Assist in completing technical sketches for domestic and overseas programs; manage sketch updates.
• Set up spec sheets for private label products & assist with developments & communications.
• Manage development and execution of all design packages; communicate changes during fit to cross-functional partners.
• Report on industry trend directions, color direction, and fabric innovations relevant to Free People target customer.
• Create initial design ideas through draped & sewn mocks for key meetings; communicate design vision to Buyers & Brand leaders.
