Job summary

Salem College is seeking a Design and Art Lab Assistant to support the daily operations of the Art & Design department's labs, studios, interiors resource room and chair library. The role favors organized, responsible students with an interest in maintaining a clean, safe, and productive creative environment.

You will monitor lab usage, assist with setup and cleanup, organize supplies, report equipment issues, and help with inventory and labeling.

Qualifications

Must be a current student with a valid work‑study award.
Strong attention to detail and a proactive, responsible attitude.
Ability to work independently and follow directions.
Good communication skills and a willingness to assist peers and faculty.
Punctual and dependable.

Responsibilities

Monitor student use of labs and studios to ensure proper use of tools, materials, and equipment.
Assist with daily cleanup procedures and encourage others to maintain shared spaces.
Organize supplies, tools, and materials; restock as needed.
Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to faculty or lab managers.
Help maintain a safe and clean work environment in accordance with department and school safety policies.
Assist with setup and breakdown of class or project spaces as needed.
Support department staff with inventory, labeling, and general organizational tasks.
Provide Chair library tours when requested.
