Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking an experienced leader to guide distributed energy resources (DER) programs across the operating company. The role involves developing strategic plans, coordinating interconnections, and aligning DER initiatives with corporate objectives to drive growth and reliability.

You will oversee DER strategy development, manage regulatory interactions, and lead teams delivering EV charging, energy storage and other DER initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology.
• Minimum of ten years of utility industry or applicable experience in engineering, business development, regulatory, financial or strategy.
• Minimum of three years in a leadership role. Registration as PE or CEM preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop an alternative energy resource strategy for customer-owned and co-sourced projects.
• Determine technologies to pursue and align program results with the company’s DER plans.
• Monitor and adjust strategy; ensure renewable facilities are properly certified with the state's PUC.
• Engage with other operating companies and experts to evaluate DER integration into the distribution system.
• Evaluate economics across projects considering location, tech attributes and performance; engage in policy to support strategies.
• Prepare presentations, summaries and testimony to support stakeholder outreach.
• Lead DER interconnection process and manage non-customer PPAs.
• Oversee RFPs, PPAs, Interconnection Agreements and power contracts as needed.
