Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a DER Interconnection Intern to support engineers evaluating and processing interconnection applications for DERs (solar, storage, and hybrids). The team spans St Paul and Denver, with enterprise-wide responsibilities.

You will help gather data, review applications, draft materials, and assist in tracking through queue systems. This internship begins May 24, 2027 and may extend based on performance and business needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Current student, Junior or higher.
• Enrolled in ABET accredited college/university pursuing Electrical and Mechanical Engineering degrees.
• Able to work full-time during summer (up to 40 hrs/week) or part-time during school year (up to 20 hrs/week), in-person per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Pre-application data requests.
• Review applications to meet minimum requirements.
• Track detailed technical information for consultant engineers.
• Support process documentation and guidelines updates.
• Help track applications through queue management systems.
• Draft stakeholder materials (FAQs, completeness reviews, tariff docs).
