Job summary

Keysight in Loveland, CO is seeking an intern (part-time or full-time) to validate DER hardware and software. You will perform grid tests, troubleshoot, and report findings to the engineering team while learning power systems and test automation.

The role offers hands-on lab experience with DERs, inverters, and energy storage, plus exposure to IEEE standards and grid simulation tools.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, including power systems, three-phase power, protection, controls, and power electronics.
Genuine interest in hands-on laboratory work - comfortable setting up test equipment, running experiments, and troubleshooting system-level issues.
Self-motivated and able to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to engineering quality and safety.

Responsibilities

Perform hands-on testing of distributed energy resources (DERs), including inverters and batteries, using laboratory hardware and software.
Execute IEEE 1547.1 and other grid compliance test procedures under guidance from engineering staff.
Configure test setups, operate lab equipment, collect data, and maintain test documentation.
Troubleshoot test failures and analyze results, then communicate findings to engineers.
Collaborate with engineers, software developers, and QA teams to improve product quality and test efficiency.
