The Pennington County Sheriff's Office in Rapid City, SD is seeking Sheriff Deputies to join the Patrol team with a February 2027 start. No prior law enforcement experience is required; a comprehensive training program is provided to prepare you for long-term service.

Deputies will patrol, respond to a wide range of calls, conduct investigations, and serve as first responders in emergencies. Physical requirements are emphasized, and advancement opportunities exist within the agency.

Qualifikationen

• Minimum 64 hours of college credit or 2 years of public safety or military experience.
• Combination of education and experience acceptable.
• Successful completion of pre-employment hiring standards (written exam, medical, agility).
• Minimum 21 years of age.
• Able to obtain SD Law Enforcement Officer Basic Certification (SDCL 2-01-02).
• Successful completion of the SD Basic Officer Certification Course (520 hours).
• Successful completion of the Deputy Training Program (600 hours).
• Free of felony conviction.
• Free of any domestic violence conviction.
• Ability to meet use of force requirements, up to deadly force.

Aufgaben

• Patrol Pennington County for crime prevention and suppression, enforce laws, and investigate suspicious activity.
• Respond to calls via radio, including domestic disputes, burglaries, traffic incidents, lost persons, and stranded motorists.
• Carry out investigations, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and conduct follow-ups as required.
• Document work in records management systems and handle sensitive data and legal docs.
• Serve as a first responder in emergencies and testify in court when required.
• Respond to specified deaths as Deputy Coroner in line with SD statutes.
• Attend meetings and trainings and perform other duties as assigned.

Ausbildung

64 hours of college credit

2 years public safety or military experience

Completion of SD Basic Officer Certification Course (520 hours)
